Amazon has confirmed that it is slashing a fresh 16,000 roles.
The news takes its announced redundancies to 30,000 in three months.
Beth Galetti, SVP of People Experience, confirmed the news in a blog.
“Some of you might ask if this is the beginning of a new rhythm – where we announce broad reductions every few months,” Galetti wrote – after Amazon announced plans to cut 14,000 other jobs in October 2025.
She added: “That’s not our plan. But just as we always have, every team will continue to evaluate the ownership, speed, and capacity to invent for customers, and make adjustments as appropriate. That’s never been more important than it is today in a world that’s changing faster than ever.”
Her post on January 29 came days after another Amazon colleague prematurely scheduled a meeting across staff calendars about “impacted colleagues” in an email that said “changes like this are hard on everyone.”
That's the second time news of major Amazon job cuts has leaked early.
Amazon revealed plans to cut 18,000 jobs in January 2023 – with CEO Andy Jassy saying he was pressed into revealing the news before contacting employees “as one of our teammates leaked this information externally.”
As Bloomberg reported, the cuts represent approximately 4.6% of Amazon’s 350,000-strong corporate workforce. They come after it posted a $31.4 billion CapEx bill last quarter, with investment in AWS “the primary driver as we invest to support demand for our AI services” and custom silicon…
