The CNCF’s fastest growing project since Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, has graduated from the foundation’s incubation scheme after a two year process.

The open source observability framework, which combines the OpenTracing and OpenCensus projects, has been in incubation since it launched in 2019, and downloaded billions of times.

CNCF CTO Chris Aniszcyk said: “As organizations increasingly scale AI and cloud native workloads, real time observability is critical for operational success. OpenTelemetry’s graduation solidifies it as the essential, unified observability standard.”

The project has “essentially become the kubernetes of the observability world”, he added.
