Google's command line agent given tighter MCP integrations

Google's open-source command line agent Gemini CLI integrated Python framework Fast MCP, granting developers better access to external databases.

The update streamlines the process of integrating a FastMCP-built server with the Google agent, enabling direct controls through GeminiCLI to improve access to third-party data sources for building tools and prompts.

Google Developer Advocate Jack Wotherspoon explained the feature “automatically handles the configuration, dependency management, and calls Gemini CLI’s built-in MCP management system (gemini mcp add).”
