HubSpot is rolling back a default data sharing policy for its CRM platform just days after it was first announced after prolonged customer backlash.

The software company said it “made a mistake” with the July 1 policy change, which saw all users opted in by default to allow HubSpot to use their data for AI model training and share it with other users.

In a July 6 update, Chief Product and Technology Officer Duncan Lennox said HubSpot would not continue with the change and was reassessing ways to make data sharing “clearer” and easier to manage.

He said: “We commit to you that when we introduce new enrichment capabilities that make use of your data, they will be fully and transparently opt‑in. You will have clear, upfront control over whether you participate and how your data is used in this context.”
