2026 has been a tumultuous year for British neocloud Nscale.
The AI infrastructure provider, spun out of a crypto-mining company in 2024, closed a $2 billion Series C this year and has recently signed deals to expand its data centre footprint across Portugal and Norway – with the support of heavy hitters like Microsoft and NVIDIA.
At the same time, a Guardian investigation in March revealed its flagship UK site was still a scaffolding yard, and the company had two major contracts fall through after OpenAI cancelled Stargate plans.
