The first major features update to hosted private instances of S/4HANA is starting to automate away the worst bits of everyday tasks, SAP said this week.

SAP's new crop of agents provide recommendations on tasks across systems and domains. The tools stop just short of acting on behalf of users, but the promise is entirely autonomous systems will only need one more layer on top of the AI-generated direction.

The company is running a series of webinars and other marketing pushes on SAP Cloud ERP Private 2025 FPS01, as more functions are progressively rolled out to tenants. 

Some of the use cases SAP is pushing will be particularly welcome for non-ERP-ninja technicians and engineers who just want to get stuff done – at the price of putting a conversational front-end on complex, and sometimes mission-critical, tasks.

Recommendations today, action soon?

On Wednesday, SAP treasury head Waldemar Kessel said his unit had been beta-testing agentic capabilities, describing autonous functions as a clear next step for ERP.

Standard instances can monitor bank accounts and "recommend concrete actions" to deal with cash surpluses and shortages, he said.
