Synopsys has partnered with OpenAI to build a specialist chip design AI model and capture demand from AI developers looking to design their own high-performing chips at speed.

The chip design software company launched GPT-Synopsys, designed to run its electronic design automation (EDA) tools, during an Investor Day on Wednesday, as part of a revenue-sharing agreement with OpenAI.

Synopsys CEO Sassine Ghazi said the model will help more companies develop silicon and “expand access to Synopsys' advanced design capabilities and the underlying, ground-truth engineering tools required to bring increasingly complex chips to market.”

GPT-Synopsys will be integrated with Synopsys’ existing AI-powered design tools and run on Open-AI hosted infrastructure. OpenAI, which recently launched its first custom AI chip with Broadcom, will pay to license Synopsys EDA tools for use in development of the model.
