Cybersecurity and cloud company Akamai is the latest to benefit from Anthropic’s cloud spending spree after signing an $11.6 billion multiyear infrastructure deal.
The US company will provide distributed AI infrastructure and software to support Anthropic’s CPU workloads, and is expected to spend $5.5 billion to meet the demand for the contract, the largest single deal in Akamai’s history.
CEO Dr Tom Leighton told The Stack the company’s cloud business was “getting big fast,” and he said the deal is “a great proof point and validation, which is helpful for us obviously, it helps accelerate revenue, and we'll be building out the platform even more.”
The deal adds to Anthropic’s already more than $500 billion contracted cloud spend, following other deals including a $45 billion compute contract with neocloud Nscale signed in August and its May deal to rent out SpaceXAI’s entire 300MW Colossus 1 data centre.
The deal is more than 4 times the size of all of Akamai’s previous cloud deals in 2026 combined.
