Shortly after a fresh controversy that saw it pull a model developed by its multi-billion-dollar superintelligence effort, Meta is doubling down on its flagship data centre project, to the tune of $50 billion.

The Facebook company revealed new plans for the site in Louisiana on Monday, revealing the once $27 billion project would now cost $50 billion and provide a 5GW capacity data centre, amid reports it is planning its own cloud business.

A July 13 update said the project was "one of the largest investments in AI infrastructure in the world." The site will host the Hyperion cluster, announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg in July 2025 as part of Meta's Superintelligence Labs AI division.
