Welcome to The Stack’s One To Watch. Every week we pick out a notable startup and go deep on what they’re building, why they’re building it, and the trials behind it all.

With AI-powered cyberattacks and unsecured agents dominating the headlines, securing the AI tools used within an enterprise environment is a hot topic for startups and legacy security vendors alike, fueling a whole new security market.

HiddenLayer was an early player in that market. The company launched in 2022 by co-founders Chris ‘Tito’ Sestito, Tanner Burns, and Jim Ballard, with the specific goal of building a platform for defending AI models, agents, and applications.

This month, the startup closed its largest funding round yet with a $100 million Series B led by Delta-v Capital.

CEO Chris spoke to The Stack about the company’s approach to securing AI tools in the enterprise, why runtime is its biggest challenge, and learning from customer data without compromising on privacy.
