Enterprises are just starting to get comfortable with the idea of using agents as coding assistants and inside back-office applications. Are they ready to let them run amok across employee devices?
Building on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's declaration earlier this year that "every company needs an OpenClaw strategy," OpenAI rolled out its take on the concept Tuesday with the launch of Dots. "Dots are remarkably capable, always-on agents built to handle really anything you can think of," CEO Sam Altman said during a presentation at the company's annual DevDay.
Dots live in the ChatGPT app but can also work within common office tools like Slack and Microsoft Teams to access calendars, request updates from teammates, and connect to approved sources of business data. "Each dot works on its own cloud computer, while your computer and its contents stay separate unless you choose to connect it," OpenAI said in a blog post.
Dots run on GPT-6-Astra, which Altman called "our most aligned model" (for whatever that's worth), and are available to individual Pro and Business Premium account holders today. "Enterprise users can try the beta when their workspace admin enables it," OpenAI said, and while details about cost were not announced in the blog post the company said Dots that are actively carrying out tasks or instructions will count toward ChatGPT usage limits.
