Three of China’s largest tech companies have formally joined the PyTorch Foundation as the country forms closer ties to the international AI industry.
Alibaba Cloud, Cambricon and Ant Group announced their membership ahead of a joint KubeCon, CloudNativeCon and PyTorch event in China, following Huawei after it joined in 2023.
PyTorch Foundation Executive Director Mark Collier said the move “further strengthens the global open source AI ecosystem and community building the open source intelligence layer developers rely on for training, optimizing, serving, distributing, and running models.”
Qwen model developer Alibaba Cloud and chip company Cambricon join Huawei as Platinum members, giving them a seat on the foundation’s governing board, while Alipay developer Ant Group, an affiliate of Alibaba, joins as a Gold member.
Alibaba Cloud CTO Feifei Li said its addition was a "natural step" following its internal use of PyTorch and said the company would "help developers build the next generation of models with confidence."
