The UK’s National Highways added £3.4 million ($4.5 million) to a cyber security contract with BAE Systems to account for “increased demand” for specialist resources, as pressure increases on critical infrastructure.
The government-owned company, which manages motorways and A-roads in England, increased the value of a cyber security contract with BAE’s Applied Intelligence software division to more than £20 million.
A release published 9 October attributed the contract modification to “increased demand for specialist cyber security resources that have become necessary because the pipeline of cyber security initiatives have grown.”
In June, the head of the National Cyber Security Centre said UK CNI had seen more than 200 cyber incidents in the preceding year, 75% attributed to nation state actors, and needed to increase focus on cyber “fundamentals”.
