UK tech infrastructure spending fell a bit in 2025, but remains strong

Hardware spending continues to soar, but investments in software and data centres actually decreased slightly compared to 2024.

Using an expanded definition of what falls into the tech infrastructure spending basket, the UK Office of National Statistics said Monday that companies spent £11.2 billion ($15.2 billion) during 2025, near an all-time high.

Total spending fell an estimated £500 million compared to 2024, but "remained the third-highest level of investment in nominal terms across the series" dating back to the dot-com days, ONS said in a report. Previous reports only counted investments in telecommunications infrastructure, but the reality of modern digital spending includes data-centre buildings, software, and networking equipment that should factor into the overall assessment, it said.
