Preparing for "a future where agents act on users’ behalf and need secure, scoped, and revocable access."
Cloud development platform Vercel is buying Better Auth, the startup behind the eponymous TypeScript authentication library, as it bets on the growing importance of identity tools for AI agents.
The two-year-old company and its core team, including founder Bereket Engida, will bring its Agent Auth protocol to Vercel and further its “Open SDK vision”, it said on Tuesday.
Guillermo Rauch, CEO of the Next.js creator, said: “Developers deserve better auth, to serve humans and agents, built in the open and with taste. That's what Bereket has accomplished.”
Better Auth's technology, including the Agent Auth protocol for verifying an agent's identity and upholding its access limits, will be rolled out on the Vercel Connect platform for connecting AI agents to third-party tools and data, and Vercel's new agent-building framework eve.
