The UK’s tax authority is paying controversial IT supplier Fujitsu a fresh £280 million without any competitive tender, it confirmed on June 24. 

That’s to keep applications tied to ageing hardware in three Fujitsu data centres running until 2028 – ahead of a planned migration to the cloud.

Days after HMRC revealed the contract extension, it said that it was procuring a cloud provider to handle a mighty lift-and-shift to the cloud.
