Microsoft Azure crosses the $100B yearly revenue milestone

Azure growth exceeded expectations, as Microsoft continues to cash in on the AI boom despite strong competition.

As Microsoft shifted from a packaged software company to a cloud software company over the last decade, it steadfastly refused to disclose revenue for Microsoft Azure, the crown jewel of that cloud strategy. Now that we're well into the enterprise AI era, somebody decided that the time was right.

Over Microsoft's last fiscal year, which ended on June 30th, Azure took in more than $100 billion in revenue, Microsoft announced Wednesday. That's an increase of 41% compared to the previous fiscal year, according to CEO Satya Nadella, and fourth-quarter Azure revenue growth of 43% exceeded analyst expectations for the quarter.
