Jamie Thomas was put in charge of IBM’s global security function after she was tasked with handling its response to the Meltdown/Spectre chip vulnerabilities that rocked the semiconductor industry in 2018 – a role she tells The Stack “came to me because of my background in hardware and software delivery, as well as the security of hardware and software.”

How she came to own security is our first question when we sit down to speak, because the IBM veteran has a somewhat unusual remit; as global head of technology lifecycle services, she runs a team that forms strategic partnerships with technology providers around the world to provide compute, storage, and networking for 14,000 IBM clients in 140 countries.

But she also oversees IBM’s CISO organisation and is responsible for security across IBM's products, client offerings and internal operations.
