Public notices filed by the UK Home Office last week indicate plans to spend up to £882 million ($1.2 billion) on public cloud services from AWS over the next four years, a substantial increase over its cloud services budget for the last four years.
According to a notice spotted by BidSkim, the Home Office plans to initiate a new four-year contract starting in December 2027 through December 2031 that averages out to £220 million a year. BidSkim estimated that the office will spend around £88.3 million during 2026 on cloud services from AWS, so the new contract would represent a notable expansion of its compute resources.
"A TechUK virtual market engagement event will be taking place on 8th December 2026 for suppliers registered on G-cloud 15 Lot 1A," the Home Office said in a preliminary market engagement notice filed alongside the public notice. The G-cloud 15 lot authorizing £14 billion in spending was supposed to favor small and medium-size businesses, but it looks like a sizable portion of that lot will go to the biggest hyperscaler of them all.
