Aviva moved 1.3 petabytes of data in a lift and shift migration from Oracle Cloud to Snowflake to support its AI products, but having a centralised data architecture has unlocked more than just better chatbots.
“Four years ago, when we were standing up here and people started talking about AI, and AI-first, and it was going to be the future. We looked at it and went, ‘That'll be nice, I'll deal with it later because I've got enough problems with what I'm doing today,’” Niall Scott, head of data engineering at Aviva, told the Gartner Data & Analytics Summit in London.
“Now, today, not having an AI platform is a considerable issue.”
