While its other Persian Gulf data centers remain idle, AWS prepares to open in Saudi Arabia

The new site will be AWS's fourth region in the Middle East, but two of those regions remain offline after attacks earlier this year.

The ongoing conflict between the US and Iran has not deterred AWS's plans to open a cloud infrastructure region in Saudi Arabia this year, it announced Monday, despite the fact that it has to yet bring two other data-center complexes back online after they were attacked.

First announced in 2024, the region will offer three availability zones when it comes online this December, AWS said in a press release. It will be the company's first infrastructure complex in the country, and AWS's fourth computing region in the greater Middle East.
