MI6 technology chief Blaise Metreweli has been named by the Prime Minister as its 18th director and the first woman to hold the role.
Career intelligence officer Metreweli, 47, is currently Director General "Q", responsible for technology and innovation in MI6, said the government.
Welcoming her to the role Sunday, MI6’s outgoing Chief, Sir Richard Moore described her as “one of our foremost thinkers on technology.”
Her appointment comes as technology becomes ever-more central to the intelligence community. (CIA CIO La’Naia Jones said in 2024 that the agency was moving from “a kinetic to a cybersecurity" mission. )
